Thankful

Well it's almost Thanksgiving! :) My pastor gave a great message Sunday, like great for real for real. Like Sarah and I both crying (plus other things) but the message got to us too. It was about being thankful all year round. It was deep and impacting.

I am really thankful, even if often I sin and forget this fact.

-I'm thankful for my best friend Sarah. It's weird because sometimes I seriously forget that she's not my sister. Like if I ever have kids they will call her Aunt Sarah and I don't question or doubt that for one second at all.

- I'm so thankful for my grandparents. Especially as of late, as I'm reminded they will not live forever. Definitely praying hard for this one....

-I'm so thankful for my brothers. I have so much love for them it is literally insane.

-I'm thankful for my job... I'm not going to lie it has been a rough transition and it has been lonely and given me many many days of doubting myself and my abilities. I am thankful for the great kids and staff which I am growing to love.

-I'm thankful for mom, while she drives me crazy most days, I do really love her and am thankful I have her in my life.

-I'm thankful for the imprint my dad left on my life, while it has been a hard and still is hard road getting over abuse, I am still thankful for how strong and independent it has made me, it may has made me super f'ed up, but no one can deny I am strong when need be.

-I'm thankful for my church and pastor, even days when I feel alone at church or totally disagree with something the pastor says, I still love it. I love that I really am challenged each week to be a better person. I also love the little kids I teach each week, it's so humbling teaching children about God and it's just so amazing laying the foundation for all God has planned for their lives.

-I'm so thankful for my friends back home, Ashley and Katie. I would be lost without a constant remember of the people I love back in PA.

-I'm thankful for my college friends. Gosh sometimes it was rough living together in a small tight space, but I learned so much about myself and others. I love all my friends from college so much and hope they realize how much they've all touched my life.

- I'm so thankful for Dana and her family that I love so much. I just want to adopt all five of them :)

- I'm thankful for Dwight. I never thought I could love a cat, I was wrong. I love him so much and sleeping is just so much better with a fluffy cat to snuggle with. I love how much he trusts me (this must be what being a parent feels like), he's a cat and he knows I'll keep him safe and I love that.

I am thankful for much much more, but right now I need to get to work son!

Fall Fun List!!

Why doesn't that sound just peachy! This year Sarah and I decided to make a list of fall stuff to do. We're actually doing pretty good with it!

1. Make some "adult" apple cider. This is done, went well and we are still reaping the benefits of this endeavor!

2. Make some Halloween cake pops. Well we have everything we need for this and will probably be working on it this weekend, unless we totally pass out from exhaustion.

3. Go to a Haunted House. DONE! We actually went to a haunted hayride, haunted corn maze, and haunted village. It was pretty rad! Yes, I can say rad, cos I'm at that age I don't really care about being cool anymore, working in a high school will do that to you.

4. Go to a beer festival. Well sadly this one is probably a no go...we missed the ones here, so unless we search beyond our 20 minute comfort zone (sad I know) we will probably miss this one, but we saw see we do have until December 21st until winter starts...

5. Carve pumpkins. DONE! We did this Sunday, with amazing results might I add! I made a Linus pumpkin and a Facebook like sign. They were probably the best designs I ever did ever. The trick? I actually bought real pumpkin carving tools, instead of using knives around the house (*side note, this really makes it seem like we have random knives laying around that house....and that is a correct assumption!).

6. Decorate our house. DONE! We started super early, like September early. BUT it was worth it cos our house looks amazing! Not to brag but it makes me happy each time I look at it.

7. Have a dinner party, Halloween themed. This will be happening Saturday. We were going to scratch it but then our friends kinda guilted us into, but I'm really glad they did. I'm excited to do some "traditional American Halloween" party things for our Mexican friends.

8. Get the animal costumes. DONE! And we totally went above and beyond for this one y'all! Oscar was a pumpkin and Dwight was a bunch of grapes. So the beyond part? We took them to Pet Smart to get their picture taken together dressed up! Dwight hated it, but I was so proud of him, because it was his first time going outside that wasn't just for a vet appointment or vacation. He did really great in the store with all the strangers petting him. Yes, I felt tons of pride for my cat, lame I know, but I'm okay with it! :)

9. Watch a scary movie. Well, we're working on it. I did watch It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and I just got Hocus Pocus from the library today. But I don't think they count....so I have Cabin in the Woods, downloaded and ready to go. I just have to convince the King to watch it with me....which I'm pretty sure I can do!

10. Go to a scary play. This will be done on Friday! Sarah, Julieta, and I are going to see The Cryptogram, which is said to be a Hitchcock-like play, so we shall see. We actually have a bumpin' girls night out planned for Friday. We're hitting up The Jewish Mother for dinner, then going to see The Cryptogram, then hitting some bars in Ghent, until we can get in to see the midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Naro. Yes, we'll be tired but it'll be so worth it! I've seen the Rocky Horror Picture Show twice now and it is hilarious, they have a great cast acting it out and the audience participation is...well....something you will never forget!!

11. Go to Santa's stocking. Santa's stocking is the huge huge huge craft/Christmas fair we have here in Virginia Beach. I love going! Hate the crowds but it is worth it because I always find cute and unique gifts there. It isn't until November, so obviously not going to it yet....

***Bonus fall treats!*** Going to the farmers market, yes we go every Saturday to get our CSA, but it still feels more like fall when we go. Another treat this fall will, in the very soon future, be meeting my God child, curtsey of my friend Dana's lady parts. :) Also, I'm pretty excited for the amazing squash soup and pumpkin ginger soup I'll physically force Sarah to cook for me!!

October 17, 2012

this next post is real deep....

deep and spiritual too.

So Sarah and I were just talking about God, like we usually do and she said something about God being Papa.

And the first image that popped in my head, was me just starting to pray. And God's ears picks up and he's real excited for my prayer. He turns on the song below and just jams out to it as I pray.... :)

He does love it when I call him Big Papa!! :)

The best thing to do on okay cupid is to send evil cryptic messages. Then when he's like what the heck? I just say, sorry my cat had something to say.

Dear Mr. President...

Today my students wrote letters to the presidents. They were pretty amazing. Amazing in the sense that one asked if Abraham Lincoln still lived there. Another felt the need to inform him that he likes to eat cheese. Another asked him for some money so she could have her birthday party at a hotel. And another asked her for some make up that she could take home (we have make-up for the girls in our class, but they're not allowed to take it home).

I should be sleeping now or working on an IEP. One or the other, both important. Both unappealing at the moment.

Our pastor made a really good point Sunday. He talked about how it's crazy that people act like every election is the most election ever and it's not. Really the most important one was, when Abe Lincoln was voted in and declared that slavery was wrong and made it law. I agree, but I have a big mouth and opinionated mind....

In amazing news, two sponsors of the debates dropped out due to the rudeness/evilness of not letting Gary Johnson in the debates even though he meets the requirements.

Sarah and I have been trying out new Bible Study classes at our church. We've gone to the typical "young adult" one for maybe a month or so now. This past Sunday I was done, I mean no one talked to us at all, not the guy who does it, his wife, people we sat next to, people we awkwardly tried to corner into conversation, and people I weirdly stared at smiled and said, "hi." But this Sunday the leader himself did talk to us, although he never asked my name, but I guess that is a start. We're still undecided what we're planning on doing. I have great insight into why new people, especially in their 20s, don't join church, stay in the church, and get connected in the church, for sure. It's hard taking that rejection week after week, very hard. Like if King wasn't there alongside with me I would have gone to that class once and then been OUT the very next week.

In other new, I have lots to do this week. I may have had a mini-panic attack when I definitely for 100% for sure thought today was Tuesday (well  technically it is now, but y'all know what I mean).

hilbilly music makes everything allright, who knew

Lately I've been enjoying the hillbilly tunes of Old Crow Medicine Show, thanks to the influence of my brother. And it makes me super happy. This has made me think of other things that make me happy and number one on that list Here Comes Honey Boo Boo! It is amazing and makes me want to paint rainbows and unicorns all over the walls of my apartment. This has seriously lead me to ponder if God has in store for me a future that involves a redneck wedding...I do look really good in John Deer green....

this post makes me happy. Time for church.

Online dating

Maybe I should elaborate more about online dating. I mainly do it for the funny things that happen....not for love. evil I know, but people are so crazy!! Also, I love being a story teller....looking for real love is just to much work right now....

I have many reasons NOT to get a boyfriend like:
- He probably won't be able to talk about trashy reality TV for more than five minutes
- Someone will be judging me and the times I go to sleep and wake up
- I don't want to watch any sports
- I just know I won't be able to listen to the music I want to in the car
- His handwriting will be the same as my kids
-I'll have to talk to him everyday
- He might want a gift or two or three, man he's greedy!

I also have many reasons TO get a boyfriend like:
- I can interrupt him in the middle of sports talk to say I'm bored
- I don't have to pay for dinner.
-I don't have to carry heavy things.
-I don't have to pay for lunch.
-I don't  have to pay for breakfast.

Wow, guys must really like poetry

This is the awesome message I woke up to today:

I love what you're about. I was. wondering if we can exchange numbers?. I think you look lovely. Here is a poem I did for you:
Beautiful Vibes

By: Quan Ranie

Sweetheart you give off truly beautiful vibes.

Like an angel, is no longer in her disguise.

Placed right here before my awakening eyes.

This is a wonderful feeling to realize.

Lady your sweetness is truly addictive.

You are truly wonderful & exquisite.

I'm glad to know that I truly didn't have to miss it

Well, that pretty much brightened up my day! HAH. This guy actually claims he wrote a poetry book....hah.  I really hope I get another....

February 29, 2012

Thanks to the rain.

So King and I are moving Friday. Which is crazy. Seriously February the shortest month of them all has been insane... I remember when I listened to linkin park...why weren't my parents more concerned? I could have had some serious issues.

So one of my students are hallucinating. It's really sad and creepy. He told me that I came to his backyard and was talking to him last night...hope everyone knows it was all in his mind and I'm not a stalker.

In other news regardless of being super behind in tons of stuff at work, I was able to finish my March lesson plans today woot woot. It helped that I planned out the rest of my Guided Reading for the year. Big big time saver.

Dwight is laying on the top of my desk sleeping with his head up...what a freak. I do like that we have a secret handshake...well, head but. Like I walk over head but him and he does it back. It's super sweet... see not all kittys are evil. Just most of them...I mean I know most people think zombies are to blame for Lincoln's death, but I'm pretty sure I know the truth....

Wow, I talked about 2 different Linkin/Lincolns in this post. Odd since it's not a common word I use at all except when I tactfully say, "So, other than that, how did you like the play, Mrs. Lincoln."

Okay, I should go prep Oscar for his doggie vet visit. By prep I mean physically force him to poop and pee so it's not done inside my car.

lent 2012

Well I've officially started lent 2012. Woot woot! I love doing lent, I wish less people saw it as a diet and I wish even less Christians saw it as just something Catholics do to pay their penance, so it's bad for us to do it. Well I enjoy lent, because I enjoy practicing acts of spiritual discipline. Mainly because they're super hard for me and provide a lot of growth, well at least I like to think so.

Down to the meat. What did I give up? Well I gave up facebook and google reader (my precious blogs) this lent. I feel like these are my two big distractors in life.  I was going to do my old "True lent sacrifices aren't done on Sunday, because if you do it on Sunday then you get exactly 40 days...." This is my usually argument, but lately I've felt really convicted about it... I don't feel like it's wrong, I feel the act of me looking for a way to still give in is pretty pathetic...really pathetic actually.

Along with my usual this year I'm going to be doing the 40 days of lent with world vision challenge. It seems like it will really help me take lent serious and make some changes in my life :) Basically every week has a theme and every day has a devotional.

So I guess I'll write a little about week one, ya know cos y'all are dieing to hear it. Well week 1 is about sacrificing what surrounds you.  I've really been thinking about how Jesus showed us this by living as a homeless person, he wasn't attached to all this crap I am attached too and feel like I so desperately need to be "me." Some of the suggestions how to live this out this week are really good and super challenging. These two were my favorites:

take down your wall decorations or cover them with quotes on sacrifice, and Bible verses
Well this is actually done, since we're moving. But it has made me mindful that once we      move I do need to have more scripture quotes and positive things surrounding me.

Do not use electricity at night
Oh my word! I saw that and just felt like, crap. I like any normal American is so so so dependent on electricity it is nuts! I think I need to convince Sarah of this one cos I like it!

So these are my two for this lent week. I'm also going to start trying to wake up 10-15 minutes early each morning to spend that time in prayer. I think it's just something that will really help me connect with God at this time in my life. We all need a little more prayer right?

On a much lighter note.....since this seems to be a post of reflection. I shall update on my new year's goals thus far.
1. Read the whole Bible- Well I'm doing pretty good with this. Done with Genesis, Exodus, and Matthew. Sarah and I are following a guide so we're not just starting on page one and doing it in order.
2. Lose 50 pounds- Well I haven't gained any weight, this is a work in progress
3. Organizer Scrapbook supplies- Well moving had helped move this along, but it won't really be completed until we're completely moved
4. Make 5 scrapbooks- So far I have made 1 and have plans to make the other 4 for my students leaving me next year
5. File/Organize/Shred papers & bills- again with moving, this won't be done until I'm all moved, but I have gone through a lot of papers
6. Read 30 books- I'm at number 8 so far I've read: Explosive Eighteen, The Hangman's Daughter, The Total Money Makeover, Love Wins, The Happiness Project, Love in a Nutshell, Wench, and The Unlikely Disciple. I'm currently reading Atlas Shurgged not sure if I'll make it through the 1,000 pages + book
7. Donate 212 things- This one is COMPLETED/FINISHED! I actually did this plus, which was nice and easily done thanks to moving :)

Stayed tuned till next month when I impress you with how much more I've accomplished!!

Saturday

Well well it's Saturday for sure. Today I'm supposed to working on and writing a brilliant project, which will obviously make all scholars after me extremely jealous. But since I know I have to leave the house in about a hour to go to a wedding show I'm taking a me break.I'm to busy being consumed with moving. We're moving at the end of the month, it's official and I'm super excited! I just love thinking about the new possibilities and layouts, and ways to organize everything. It just makes me really really happy! :) The nice part too is that we are just moving like across the street. Our address will only be different by one number, which is going to be really confusing but we'll get used to it.

In new years resolution news, I donated my 212 items already plus, I stopped keeping track after 212. and I've read six books thus far, which is exciting. The others ones are kinda getting pushed to the back burner until I'm done with this grad class and we move.

Not to much else has been going on. I actually had an okay week at work this work. Which is good, because lately it hasn't been to good. Now I think I'm going to go watch some Agatha Christie, clean, and then ask my best friend ever to braid my hair. The shower is Western themed, hee hee, but since I have no western wear at all, I thought braiding my hair would have to be close enough.

On a side note, someone told me that they think lol looks like someone drowning. Now I see it all the time, so when I type lol, I want to really type lol....help me! But I won't, I hope that got stuck in your heads now too.

SK told me to post

So my lovely best friend has informed me that I need to write a blog, so write a blog I shall. Well I have achieved one of my new years resolutions. I donated 212 things! Yay,  it was and will be more then that actually but I stopped counting after 212. It did help that we're trying to move by the end of February.

So what else is new? dating? awkward? dating people from online scary!! haha. I feel like I'm to untrusting of new guys I talk to. Like this one guy in particular you have a job in marketing? really what does that really mean? People are weird, like asking me to your house to eat fish the first day we talk...odd. It's kinda scary how freaky people are these days. Life is easier in a small town, because you pretty much know all the guys you date so you don't deal with the awkward first date/meeting thing. But then I guess you don't really meet people out of your comfort zone and you grow miserable and bitter. So since I live in the big city maybe then one day I will date him:

or maybe them:

As you can tell, I'm dreaming big! Sky's the limit. I will say one thing about this life experience I'm going through. It is nice to meet so many men who don't care about my size and still want to get to know me, date me, and some do other nasty gross things with me I don't want think about ever again! HA, yep, I've had to block a lot of folks. :) Well I hope that puts a horrible gross image into your mind. I must sleep now because it's super late and I silly decided once again to prepare for my Sunday School lesson, in the morning!

Happy New Years mo fo

So it's the time of year where we all pretend everything is starting brand new. Of course being a sucker I'm buying in. I have 7 New Years resolutions this year, 7 brave I know. Last year mine was to read 2 books a month and I did so. I even kept track, which helped me stay on route, so I plan on keeping track this year too! Cos y'all know us special ed. teachers love our data data data!!

So without further ado, I present to you my 2012 goals:
1. Read the whole Bible (I've done this before, but not as an adult)
2. Lose 50 pounds (yes, I need to lose more, but this seems reasonable)
3. Organize my scrapbook supplies (Everything is a big ol' mess! The main motivation behind this is using my scrap-booking organizing tools and containers, & if I'm organized I'll use it more, right?)
4. Make 5 scrapbooks (I think I made zero this year!)
5. File/Organize/Shred my papers & bills (Also, another big ol' mess. I think I need to develop a system that works for me)
6. Read 30 books (Last year my goal was to read 24, I read way more, so this year I want to read 30 and ONLY 30, once I reach my max, I'm done for the year!)
7. Donate 212 things (this is doable, because I have so much, but really need so little)

So I'm counting on my friends & family to help keep me accountable on these goals. Feel free to call me out and often. I'll be keeping update and tracking periodically...
